More On Creativity

There are a lot of exercises that u are supposed to be able to do in order to boost your creativity, or to focus it more productively. In design school we learned various methods, including mind-mapping, probes, visual journaling, sketching, brainstorming, etc. I've always found all these methods both fascinating and a little repugnant; wanting to be good at them, but never quite believing that they "work" as their "results" are so subjective. Sometimes they just felt like ways to tie down what ought to be a free-form, intuitive process, rather than methods for encouraging the kinds of leaps and bounds you want your imagination to make during the creative process.
Coming down on the hearts-and-roses side of  this love/hate relationship is Decor8 blogger Holly Becker's new (reinstated) Creativity Series, the third installment of which went up today. It's kind of like a practical guide to inspiration - definitely up to the usual (extremely high/awesome) Decor8 standard:)

I'm loving

these posters:

Lucky for me, they're 2 for $20 right here.

Creativity

So, last night I had a really creatively productive night. I've been practicing some "constructive procrastination," which doesn't always work, because sometimes it's just procrastination. This time, however, was very successful. I had allowed ideas for this series to percolate and bubble in my mind for days, to the point when last night (I had felt this coming on for a couple of days) I had to stop what I was doing and immediately start realizing some of those ideas. There is very little that compares to that euphoric rush you get from bringing something that exists solely in your own mind, as a vaguely connected series of images, words, and feelings, into the world, in a solid, concrete way. Or maybe that's just me, because apparently I am a

type of creative. It's strange, and fairly accurate... I saw this quiz on This Young House this morning, and really loved the tactile quality of the results image. Go check it out yourself!

Inspiration

Testing, testing, 1 2 3

This is my new blog, which I will be using as a sort of virtual inspiration board for my personal work/home. It will also hopefully be integrated with my upcoming etsy shop. Most likely it will devolve into drooling over my favorite bloggers...
